Catherine Taron
Catherine is an active member of the Federation of Canadian Artists. She has lived on Vancouver Island for most of her life and in the Cowichan Valley, at Maple Bay, since 2003. Like many artists, she started drawing as a child but postponed serious painting until later in life. A significant influence was meeting Group of Seven artist, Arthur Lismer, during her teenage years. Now a dedicated painter, she works primarily in water media techniques and, aligning with her passions for understanding the nature world, has a Bachelor of Science (Geography). Catherine worked for Parks Canada at Pacific Rim National Park and in Calgary, and then for the Government of British Columbia in Victoria. She interprets Vancouver Island landscapes primarily in watercolour and acrylics, with a focus on the changing moods and energies of the west coast and island communities. Her intention is to explore painting with a light hand and limited palette. “I try to capture the feeling of places I know, with a specific memory or story in mind.”
